I halved this recipe and had to substitute yellow onion for the shallots. I had the back ready the day before and it was fast to put together. This is a great dish if you have a lot going on because you can make it in stages and ahead of time. Super easy to make and I was even able to get the 6 year old to help snap the beans. I made this dish for Christmas Eve dinner as a side for a Standing Rib Roast. This Thanksgiving I made it as a side & it was devoured - no leftovers!!! This is such a great recipe - I make it with turkey bacon to cut down on the fat & it's still delish. I would like to try this recipe with other green vegs like brussel sprouts or broccoli or even chard. I just used the 3 T bacon driping/fat and omitted the butter. I make it every Thanksgiving upon request from my family. ![]() slice your shallots into thins slices and separate, drop into and egg wash and then I drop into a seasoned flour mixture/50 flour/50 cornstarch, with some cayenne, onion powder, garlic salt and pepper//in a pinch I use pre=mixed kicken' chicken seasonings or something of the like, it is as easy as that, drop into hot oil for just a minute, watch carefully, spoon out drain and top your awesome bacon beans, you'll look like a pro How about a cold version? Want to bring to potluck so difficult to keep warm.įor a little crispy texture, I like to add some crispy fried shallots. ![]()
